In spring and early summer of this year, working day and night with intense concentration, I completed 12 paintings in a “New Home” group, shown in the Gallery section as Portfolio Two. They represent a significant expansion from my previous work. Use of lines has become a metaphor, with fresh and spontaneous interpretation flowing into both past and future.
The paintings represent increasing simplicity, and were inspired by a series of dreams received during June and July. On the morning of June 10, 2015 I visualized a circle that contained abstract forms relating to one another. An inner voice prompted the New Home name, and upon waking each day I entered sketches and procedures in a journal – all from the inspiration of my dream life.
The group Breakout, High Risk and Mr. Matt’s Capture chronicle the escape of Richard Matt and David Sweet from the Clinton Correctional Facility. Along with much of our country, my imagination was preoccupied with these events. On June 26th at 11am I painted Mr. Matt’s Capture (a gestural representation of Matt being shot in the woods). He was apprehended and killed at 4pm that same day.
